HISTORIC CONTEXT

Constructed between 1768 and 1782, The Mission San Jose Convento is part of the San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. The Park consists of four historic mission complexes built in the modern-day San Antonio area by the Spanish in the early 1700s. Known as the “Queen of the Missions,” this is the largest of the historic missions. The Convento is located at the North end of the Mission San Jose compound, directly adjacent to, and East of, the Church. Along with The Alamo and Mission Concepcion, it is one of five missions in San Antonio designated a World Heritage Site by the United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
