Repair Cape Hatteras Lighthouse interior, exterior and oil house. Restore and improve historic landscape.
PROJECT SUMMARY
Stone & Lime Historic Restoration Services, Inc. is currently working on the rehabilitation of the iconic Cape Hatteras Lighthouse at Cape Hatteras National Seashore in Buxton, North Carolina. This extensive project focuses on both interior and exterior restoration, emphasizing historical accuracy and structural integrity.
The scope of work includes stripping and repainting masonry and metal surfaces, performing selective repairs and replacements on interior and exterior metal components, and repointing masonry on both the lighthouse and the oil house. A new, non-corrosive metal railing is being installed on the lantern balcony, and the current rotating light beacon and platform will be replaced with a replica of the original first-order Fresnel lens.
Additional efforts involve restoring the oil house, replacing the existing vinyl perimeter fence with a historically accurate metal fence, and fabricating a replica stockade fence around the Principal Keeper’s Quarters and Double Keeper’s Quarters (Museum of the Sea) to reflect the original historic landscape. This project showcases Stone & Lime’s commitment to preserving and honoring America’s historic landmarks.
